The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has issued a public reminder to tourism resort operators and island lessees, announcing that payments for the fourth-quarter Tourism Land Rent fall due today.

In an official notice posted on their social media this morning, the state tax collector urged taxpayers to complete their transactions promptly to avoid last-minute delays. The authority highlighted the payment cut-off under its ongoing compliance campaign, urging businesses across the hospitality sector to settle their obligations before the close of business.

Tourism Land Rent represents one of the largest non-tax revenue sources for the Maldivian government, requiring private entities leasing state-owned islands, plots, or lagoons for resort development to pay quarterly advance lease fees under the Maldives Tourism Act.

MIRA collects rent on land leased for tourism development. In August 2026, tourism land rent collections totalled USD 1.07 million (MVR 16.43 million), compared with USD 1.53 million (MVR 23.55 million) in the same month last year. Late payments incur daily statutory fines and interest charges, though resort operators can avoid penalties by settling their obligations online via MIRA’s tax portal or in person at designated collection centres.
