Seychelles’ Foreign Minister Barry Faure has arrived in the Maldives on an official visit, marking the first visit to the country by a Seychellois foreign minister.
Minister Faure, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Seychelles, is visiting at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam. He was received at Velana International Airport by Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit is being framed as a notable moment in Maldives-Seychelles relations, as both countries look to deepen cooperation across bilateral and multilateral areas. During his stay, Minister Faure is scheduled to meet Minister Iruthisham for discussions on strengthening ties and working together on issues of mutual interest.
The Maldives and Seychelles share several common policy concerns as Small Island Developing States, including climate vulnerability, ocean governance, sustainable development and the challenges faced by small economies in international forums.
The visit reflects the close and friendly relations between the two countries and their shared interest in expanding cooperation, particularly through platforms where island states seek greater visibility and collective influence.
