Key points
  • Shirak Avia plans a weekly Saturday Yerevan–Malé service via Muscat from November 2026 through March 2027.
  • The route uses Boeing 737-800 aircraft and forms part of the airline's winter expansion including Bali and Phuket.
  • From 25 October, Shirak Avia and nine other airlines will check in at Velana's Terminal 2 to boost capacity.

Travellers from Armenia will have an additional route to the Maldives this winter, with Shirak Avia planning a weekly service between Yerevan and Malé via Muscat.

The Armenian airline is expected to begin operations in November 2026, with Saturday flights scheduled through March 2027. The service will connect Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan with Velana International Airport using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Flights will include a technical refuelling stop in Muscat, Oman, before continuing to Malé. The Maldives route forms part of Shirak Avia’s wider winter expansion, which also includes planned services to Bali and Phuket.

The additional service comes as Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) prepares to expand international check-in capacity at Velana International Airport during the winter tourism season.

Under arrangements announced by MACL, passengers departing with 10 international airlines will check in at Terminal 2 from 25 October. Shirak Avia is among the designated carriers, alongside Neos, Aeroflot, US-Bangla Airlines, Centrum Air, Azur Air, S7 Airlines, Kuwait Airways, GullivAir and French Bee.

Terminal 2, formerly the airport’s international terminal, currently serves domestic flights. The seasonal arrangement will distribute international check-in activity across both passenger terminals, providing additional counters and space during the busy travel period.

Passengers flying with the designated airlines have been advised to report directly to Terminal 2 and allow sufficient time to complete departure formalities.
