Solar powered streetlights have been installed in Sh. Maaungoodhoo through the ‘BML Community Fund’.
The project, which was successfully implemented by the local NGO, Society for Maaungoodhoo Youth Linkage, saw the installation of 25 streetlights along the main roads of the island.
Commenting on the project, Mohamed Zahir said, “Prior to this project, there were no streetlights in the area and the community faced a lot of difficulties. We hope that with the installation of solar powered streetlights, we can make the island a safe space for our community and make a difference to the environment by reducing our dependence on non-renewable energy”.
The Community Fund is a program to empower NGOs to contribute to their communities through sustainable projects.
