STO imports a new shipment of potatoes

To tackle the issue of increasing prices of potato on the market, a new shipment of potato has been brought in by State Trading Organization (STO).

Hamdhoon Saeed, Senior Manager of STO Super Mart stated that the new shipment was brought in on 21st of May and the stock is expected to last for seven days. This is the third shipment of potatoes imported by STO for Ramadan.

STO is working towards clearing the shipment from Customs and make it available in the market by the morning of 22nd May.

The company has imported shipments of onion and eggs in addition to potato during previous Ramadans. Price of potato is MVR 9 per kilogram, whereas a sack is to be sold at MVR 200 and MVR 190 is more than 50 sacks are being bought.

Prices of potato had increased to MVR 20 per kilogram due to the limited supply available in the market.
