Tech giants to create common standard for smart home devices.

Technology giants Amazon, Apple and Google announced that they are planing to develop a common technology standard for smart home products. This will help to enabling more connected devices to speak to each other.

This project aims to improve the consumer experience of trying to use smart home products that aren’t compatible with each other . Project Connected Home over IP Intends to Simplify Development for Device Manufacturers and Increase Compatibility for Consumers

The Zigbee Alliance is also part of the group, which includes companies such as IKEA, Legrand, NXP Semiconductors, Samsung and Signify. 

The project will be designed from the start to work with existing smart assistants such as Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant, and others.

According to Google, the first draft of the new protocol will be released in late 2020
