Maldivian tourists will be eligible for visa-free stays of up to 30 days in Thailand from 15 September 2026, following a revision to an earlier decision that would have limited their visits to 15 days.
The Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the arrangement in a statement on Thursday, following the publication of Thailand’s visa policy changes in the Government Gazette on 31 August.
The allowance follows diplomatic discussions over a broader overhaul of Thailand’s entry rules. In May, the Thai Cabinet decided to reduce visa-free stays for tourists from 93 countries, with Maldivians initially placed among those eligible for only 15 days.
Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam raised the matter during a telephone conversation on 29 June with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkeow.
According to the ministry, a revised policy announced on 14 July increased the planned allowance for Maldivians to 30 days following those discussions. The gazetted changes confirm that this allowance will take effect on 15 September.
