The Maldives Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) has announced the much-anticipated third edition of the ‘Savaadheetha Dhathuru’ yacht rally. Scheduled to commence on February 10th, 2024, this prestigious sailing event is set to welcome yachtsmen and sailors from across the globe to the Maldivian seas.
This year’s theme, ‘Maldives: Small Country with a Big Heart’, is inspired by a participant’s quote from the previous year. The rally has already attracted ten boats and aims to host up to fifteen, offering a unique exploration of the local islands and a deep dive into the rich Maldivian culture and traditions.
The rally will start at Kudagiri Picnic Island with an opening ceremony, followed by a journey through various islands including V. Fulidhoo, M. Muli, and the serene L. Baresdhoo for a picnic. The participants will navigate the challenging Huvadhoo Kandu Channel, visiting Ga. Kolamaafushi and Gdh. Hoan’dehdhoo, and finally culminating their voyage at S. Hithadhoo and S. Gan with a Gala Night to celebrate the successful completion of the event.
A key goal of the Savaadheetha Dhathuru is to integrate the local community within the tourism sector and promote Local Island Tourism, Culture & Heritage Tourism, and Nautical Tourism. The event enjoys the support of island councils and communities, ensuring an authentic local experience for all participants.
The 2024 Maldives Yacht Rally has garnered endorsement from several ministries, including Tourism, Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Sports Fitness and Recreation, Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Dhivehi Language, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Economic Development & Trade, and Foreign Affairs. The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) continues its partnership as the Main Sponsor for the third year. The event also partners with Visit Maldives as the Destination Partner and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) as the Hosting Partner.
