The Maldives Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal, announced plans to invest in the development of local talent within the tourism industry during his keynote address at the Travel Creators Exchange 2024.
“Investing in our local talent is not just essential for the future of our tourism industry, but also for the overall socio-economic development of the Maldives,” stated Minister Faisal. “By equipping our people with the right skills and opportunities, we can ensure that Maldivians are at the forefront of our tourism success story while also creating a more inclusive and prosperous future for all.”
Recognising the crucial role skilled Maldivians play in delivering exceptional guest experiences, the Minister outlined a series of initiatives aimed at fostering a pipeline of qualified professionals across various tourism sectors.
The Ministry is strategically focusing on enhancing education and training through collaborations with institutions and industry stakeholders, aiming to develop programmes in hospitality management, guiding, culinary arts, and sustainable tourism practices. Simultaneously, it emphasises career development by creating opportunities for professional growth, including mentorship programmes, internships, and leadership training. Additionally, there is a commitment to promoting local entrepreneurship in the tourism sector, providing support through financial assistance, business development training, and market access for Maldivians launching their ventures.
