Transport Ministry Increases Taxi Fares Amid Spike in Fuel Prices

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has officially announced an increase in taxi fares in the Greater Male’ Region.

In the statement publicised by the Ministry, it was stated that these changes were due to the spike in fuel prices.

The updated taxi fares are as follows:

  • Within Male’, Hulhumale’ Phase I or Phase II: MVR 30
  • Male’ to Hulhumale’ Phase I and vice versa: MVR 85
  • Male’ to Hulhumale’ Phase II and vice versa: MVR 100
  • Male’ to Hulhule’ and vice versa: MVR 70 
  • Hulhumale’ Phase I to Hulhule’ and vice versa: MVR 80 
  • Hulhumale’ Phase II to Hulhule’ and vice versa: MVR 85
  • Hulhumale’ Phase I to Hulhumale’ Phase II and vice versa: MVR 40

The Russia-Ukraine conflict has caused a rapid surge in global fuel prices, which prompted local taxi drivers to protest against the set taxi fares for the Greater Male’ Region earlier this year. Some drivers had already started to charge above the government-set fares prior to yesterday’s official announcement.
