The UK has become the country with the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives.
Previously, Russia boasted the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives since the beginning of the year. However, tourist arrivals from Russia and Ukraine have decreased significantly due to the conflict.
The UK accounts for 13 percent of tourist arrivals to the Maldives. Around 60,000 tourists from the UK arrived in the Maldives in the last three months.
Russia is second on the list. Around 54,000 tourists arrived from Russia, while 50,000 tourists arrived from India.
Germany, France, Italy, Austria, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland are also among the top 10 countries with the highest number of tourist arrivals.
A total of 456,000 tourists have arrived in the Maldives so far this year. The Tourism Ministry aims to attract 2 million tourists this year. According to the proposed budget for this year, 1.6 million tourists are allocated for the Maldives. Prior to COVID-19, 1.7 million tourist arrivals were recorded in 2019.
