Villa College Commences 5th Social Research and Innovation Conference

Villa College’s Institute for Research and Innovation has commenced the International Conference on Social Research and Innovation on 6th November 2021. This conference was honored by the presence of Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Ibrahim Hassan followed by a keynote speech.

This conference is conducted each year to provide the opportunity to access international platforms for Maldivian researchers and research papers from different areas are presented during the conference. During this year’s conference, 57 research papers were presented from 8 areas. These areas include:

  • Politics, Policy, Law and Governance
  • Business, Management, Finance, and Corporation Governance
  • Environment and Technology
  • Language, Media, and Communication
  • Psychology, Education and Development
  • Health, Nursing and Social Work
  • Religion, Art, Culture, and Tourism
  • Social Science

International Journal of Social Research and Innovation was inaugurated during the ceremony and research papers presented by the attendees have been included in the journal. This conference will bring together students, lecturers, and experts together to exchange information and network during the 2 days of the conference. Additionally, experts from different areas will be giving keynote speeches and conducting panel discussions.

The Rector of Villa College, Dr. Ahmed Anwar has stated during his speech that research is vital in making better decisions at the policy level and otherwise. Moreover, he has also emphasized the importance of researchers working together, and that Villa College lecturers and employees are always encouraged to work on research projects.

In addition to this, Dr. Ahmed Anwar also highlighted how the world is working to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic through different means and research plays an important role in finding efficient and effective ways to take the next step forward.

Villa College has been conducting this conference every year since 2016. The date for the 2022 conference will be announced today. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Building Back Better, A Resilient Future for All’.
