Villa College has launched two new degree programmes, the Bachelor of Quantity Surveying and the Bachelor of Political Science and International Relations.
The programmes were launched by Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla during a special ceremony at the college yesterday.
Head of the School of Computer Science, Udhuma Abdul Latheef, highlighted that the Bachelor of Quantity Surveying programme opens up new opportunities in the Maldives’ infrastructural development sector. The course includes studies in quantifying materials for construction projects, financial and procurement processes, and the legal aspects of construction.
Spanning three years, the curriculum covers cost planning, assessment, building material calculation, cost reduction, cost estimates, building development techniques, and project management. It also offers industrial training for practical, on-field experience.
Senior Lecturer Al Ustaz Aishath Khaleela from the Faculty of Sharia and Law discussed the Bachelor of Political Science and International Relations programme. She emphasised the programme’s role in nurturing future political leaders, tailored to the evolving dynamics of regional and global politics and their economic impacts.
Designed by academics in Asia, this three-year online programme covers modules on the Maldives’ legal system, third-world politics, foreign policies, and human rights.
Additionally, Senior Curriculum Developer Kashima Ahmed Shakir launched two books during the ceremony, with Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla officiating the launch.
