United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with the leading telecom and digital service provider in the country Dhiraagu has opened applications for this year’s Film for Change programme.
As part of the programme, trainees will undergo a training component within groups and a post-production component which will be held with the guidance of industry veterans. Aim of the training component is to give the participants the technical and creative skills with minimal equipment to produce five short films. The short films will be inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the 17 global goals set by the UN in 2015.
Film for Change is aimed at empowering the youth to explore social issues through the medium of film.
Dhiraagu stated that youth empowerment is a key focus area under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The company mentioned it was proud of its involvement in the project, which uses mobile phones and tablets as film-making tools, and which complements the company’s vision to use digital solutions as a means for youth empowerment and social development.
Applications for Film for Change are open until June 17. All Maldivians above the age of 18 are eligible to apply, though young women are highly encouraged to step forward, and priority will be given to applicants aged between 18-25. UNDP will select 30 participants after an interview process, which will be carried out only for shortlisted applicants.
The training will be held June 21 – July 1, while shooting and post-production session will be held July 2 – July 15. The finished short films are to be screened from July 31 – August 10.
