Fairmont Hotels & Resorts recently announced the appointment of Iain McCormack as General Manager of Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi, the luxury hotel group’s first property in the island nation.
With over 36 years in the hospitality business and a career that has spanned key global regions, McCormack brings a wealth of expertise and insight to the resort. He has successfully managed several luxury resorts around the world, working closely with owners and operators to exceed expected outcomes. His strong background derives from in-depth knowledge of sales & marketing, revenue management, strategy planning, positioning, quality assurance and awareness. Additionally, he has extensive experience managing remote, diverse and complex properties in a variety of countries.
Prior to his recent appointment, McCormack was Global Group Director of the Karma Group, an award-winning international travel and lifestyle hospitality brand. In his role he had full strategic control of the group’s 27 boutique and luxury resorts, including implementing brand standard systems, setting up a structured sales & marketing division, and driving the development division.
A hotel management graduate of Southampton College, McCormack started his career path working at a number of renowned hotels in the United Kingdom, including the Gleneagles Hotel and The Metropole Hotel. He then moved to the Caribbean, where he managed luxury properties in the Grenadines, Barbados, St Lucia, Anguilla, Jamaica & St Maarten.
A move across the world to Maldives, managing Soneva Gili, he made his entry into the Asian market. He continued to follow a variety of global hospitality brands such as Leading Hotels of the World, IHG and Shangri-La in a diverse list of destinations including Mauritius, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Bali. Under his pioneering guidance as general manager, he has helped decorate many properties with outstanding achievements and awards including the “World’s Leading Luxury Resort”, #1 on TripAdvisor.
With McCormack’s rich multi-faceted experience in resorts worldwide and his passion for exceptional guest services, he will play a pivotal role in enriching the stellar reputation of the Fairmont brand and positioning Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi as Maldives’ top luxury resort destination.
Opened to rave reviews in 2017, the 120-key Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi is located at Shaviyani Atoll in North Maldives, which boasts one of the country’s largest resort lagoons. The all-villa resort is ideal for couples or families, and features overwater private pool villas as well as luxury safari-style tented villas nestled in the island’s lush interior jungle. The resort is accessible by domestic flight in 50 minutes from Male International Airport followed by speedboat from Hanimaadhoo Airport to the resort. Alternatively, guests can book a 50-minute scenic seaplane flight directly to the resort.
