BML Donates 30 Additional Wheelchairs Under Annual Community Initiative

Bank of Maldives has donated 30 additional wheelchairs under its annual initiative to support people with mobility impairments across the country.

The latest donation continues a programme launched in 2017, through which BML has now delivered more than 360 wheelchairs to individuals living in over 105 islands. The initiative forms part of the bank’s wider community support and corporate social responsibility efforts, with a focus on improving mobility, independence and quality of life for beneficiaries and their families.

This year, BML has expanded the scope of the programme to address a broader range of mobility needs. Alongside motorised wheelchairs for individuals who are able to operate them independently, the bank has introduced specialised manual wheelchairs.

The manual wheelchairs are designed for children and adults who depend on caregivers or family members for daily mobility. The addition is intended to make the programme more inclusive by supporting beneficiaries with different levels of mobility and care requirements.

Access to suitable mobility equipment remains an important issue for families across the Maldives, particularly in island communities where specialised assistive devices may be difficult to obtain. Programmes of this nature can help reduce some of the practical barriers faced by people with mobility impairments, while also easing the daily responsibilities of caregivers.

BML stated that the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to investing in community health and supporting people across the country.
