The fourth session of the ‘Viavathi Raajje’ conference, held for members of Local Councils, has ended. The two-day meeting is held at CROSSROADS Maldives.
The conference aims to create awareness among Councillors on the challenges of governance and the development of constituencies. It also seeks to assist Councillors to assume their new roles and responsibilities through the transition following the ratification of the 8th Amendment to the Decentralisation Act.
The fourth session of the conference, held under the theme ‘Uhmeedhee Badhalu,’ featured addresses by Councillors from four Councils—Maalhos Council of Baa Atoll, Ukulhas Council of Alifu Alifu Atoll, Shaviyani Atoll Council and Vaadhoo Council of Raa Atoll.
The Councillors expressed enthusiasm towards the Administration-led amendments to the Decentralisation Act and noted that many of the challenges currently faced by Local Councils would be addressed with the new changes.
