President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Tuesday instructed the Attorney General of the Maldives to amend necessary laws to strengthen the security and protection provided to the Speaker of Parliament and the Chief Justice of the Maldives, including the designation of their official residences.
President Solih tasked the Attorney General to make necessary amendments to the laws to strengthen the security and protection of the Speaker and the Chief Justice. The President also briefed the Cabinet on this matter during today’s online cabinet session.
This comes after a recent terrorist attack on Speaker Mohamed Nasheed’s life on 6th May, which saw the explosion of an IED near his residence. Nasheed sustained multiple injuries as a result, and had to be rushed into surgery. He is now recovering and in stable condition.
