President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated 3 key projects in Addu City during his trip to the Maldives’ southern cities.
On Sunday, President Solih officially inaugurated the Maradhoo Harbour and Maradhoo Feydhoo harbour in Addu City at separate functions held on each island.
The Maradhoo Harbour project was carried out by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The project oversaw harbour dredging, construction of a sand fill breakwater, 340-metre revetment and 276-metre quay wall. It also included the construction of pavements and light installation along the harbour area.
Maradhoo Feydhoo Harbour project was carried out by Heavy Force Private Limited. The project scope included the maintenance dredging of the harbour and harbour channel, construction of a 243-metre breakwater and a 260-metre quay wall. It also included the construction of pavements and light installation along the harbour area.
Later on Sunday, President Solih also officially launched the work on the biggest ever road development project to be conducted in Addu City, which also includes a storm water drainage system. Dr. Subrahmanyam, the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India and his local counterpart, Abdulla Shahid, the Maldives’ Minister of Foreign Affairs and recipient of the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (ODRI), had accompanied the President to this ceremony.
The project, worth MVR 1,197068,447.16, would be overseen by Afcons Infrastructure Limited. The new roads have been designed to resolve the issue of flooding, with storm water drainage systems being installed in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo. The project would see the installation of 103 kilometres of storm water drainage systems.
A total of 107 kilometres of roads are set to be constructed across Addu City which includes Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo. Forty kilometres of road would be built with tar and bricks and 67 kilometres of road would be built by using a cement stabilised base layer.
Finally, this morning President Solih inaugurated the harbour developed in Meedhoo. Following the inauguration ceremony, the harbour was officially handed over to the Addu City Council.
Meedhoo Harbour development project was undertaken by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Ltd. (MTCC). As part of the project, the harbour and its entrance were deepened and a new sand fill breakwater, a 115-meter seawall, and a 496-meter quay wall structure were constructed. MTCC had also laid pavements and installed lights along the harbour.
The President had visited the worksite of the Hulhudhoo harbour development project, also undertaken by MTCC, and inspected its progress. The plans for Hulhudhoo harbour include deepening the entrance, installation of a 624-meter revetment, 114-meter breakwater, 742-meter quay wall and finishing the project with pavements and lights laid out along the harbour.
