The very first International Tourism Film Festival under the theme “Following the Equator” will kick off yesterday at The Siyam Irufushi Resort, Maldives. Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) being the official marketing partner of this festival is also represented at the event. The event started off with a Dinner Buffet, followed by short movie previews.

This three day festival includes many activities and events including a grand reception, local handicrafts exhibition, competitions, Yoga and Pilates classes and cooking classes in addition to the film competition. The festival entries comprise of movies about interesting and unique places on earth, the culture and history of countries, with each video of not more than 13 minutes. At the end of this three day event, winners from different categories will be given prizes valued up to USD 20,000. Representatives from MMPRC joined the opened dinner which was hosted by The Sun Siyam Irufushi.
This is a significant event in the world of cinema and the first of its kind in Maldives. This festival has opened up the opportunity for professionals, amateurs and students focusing on the film industry, to showcase their talent and commitment to the film industry.
With such an event, it is also a great opportunity to promote the VMY 2016 campaign as well as the destination in different markets and focus on attracting a different segment of the market; professional and amateur film makers. Visit Maldives Year 2016 has been the major campaign of the year which is predicted to attract more tourists to the destination.
