Velana International Airport (VIA) announced the successful upgrade of its Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS), a significant leap toward technological advancement in air navigation services. This strategic move reflects VIA’s commitment to staying at the forefront of cutting-edge technology.
The AMHS, designed as a next-generation technology platform, plays a crucial role in facilitating the seamless exchange of aeronautical information among stakeholders involved in flight operations, air navigation services, and airport operations. Critical information communicated through this system includes details related to flight plans, NOTAM (Notice to Airmen), and meteorological updates.
This transformative upgrade automates previously manual processes, streamlining tasks such as flight plan approvals and filing procedures through a secured internet network. Developed at VIA with an investment of approximately USD 500,000, the newly integrated system is provided by IDS AirNav, a globally recognized leader in AMHS services. IDS AirNav has also played a pivotal role by delivering necessary consultancy and training for MACL staff.
The adaptation of AMHS underscores MACL’s continuous commitment to advancing air navigation services, enhancing operational efficiency, and ensuring the steadfast safety of air navigation services. This pivotal service will be delivered by Maldives National Air Traffic Services (MNATS), the primary air service provider in the Maldives and a subsidiary company of MACL.
