State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has announced the implementation of reductions in electricity bills, addressing concerns raised by consumers, in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s directive.
Hussain Fahumee, Managing Director of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), confirmed the implementation of discounts on electricity bills for the month of Ramadan. Fahumee assured customers of efforts to ensure timely billing and distribution.
Similarly, Fenaka Corporation Limited has introduced adjustments to electricity bills outside Male’ city. Muaz Mohamed Rasheed, Managing Director, explained that the April bills encompassed part of the Ramadan period, leading to increased consumption. Efforts are underway to align billing with March rates.
Heena Waleed, Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office, underscored the significance of fulfilling the presidential pledge, noting the swift response from President Muizzu to address any initial lapses in provision. Emphasising ongoing efforts, Heena highlighted the commitment to resolving billing concerns effectively.
President Muizzu had previously committed to reducing electricity bills compared to average rates, with notable discounts granted in March. However, concerns arose in April due to increased rates, partly attributed to higher electricity consumption during hot weather and Ramadan. Companies continue to urge consumers to optimise electricity usage accordingly.
