Maldives State Shipping (MSS) is set to broaden its horizons by commencing operations to Singapore and Malaysia. MSS has announced that its vessel, MSS Graphene, will embark on trips starting from Port Klang in Malaysia, then to Singapore, and onward to Colombo in Sri Lanka. The inaugural voyage to Malaysia is scheduled for 13th July.
In an interview with state media, Ahmed Shareef, the Managing Director of MSS, highlighted the substantial demand for these new routes. The MSS Graphene, with a capacity to carry 500 containers simultaneously, will play a pivotal role in meeting this demand. Shareef explained that goods will initially be transported to Colombo ports and subsequently transferred from Colombo to the Maldives via another vessel. He also hinted at future plans to expand MSS’s operational trips to additional destinations.
The MSS fleet currently consists of five vessels, conducting regular trips from Colombo and Dubai to Malé City. The company boasts a workforce of agents from over 30 countries and manages over 2,000 containers. MSS has demonstrated its capability to import goods from across the globe to the Maldives, reinforcing its position as a key player in the region’s shipping industry.
With the launch of these new routes, MSS continues to enhance its service offerings, aiming to facilitate smoother and more efficient trade links between the Maldives and major international ports.
