Malaysia Airlines is set to resume flights to the Maldives, as announced by the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). The first flight is scheduled to arrive on Thursday.
The national carrier of Malaysia will operate daily flights to the Maldives using a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which has a seating capacity of 174 passengers. This marks the airline’s return to the Maldives since it ceased operations in 2017. The resumption of these flights is expected to strengthen travel links between the two countries, as Malaysia is a popular destination for Maldivians.
In addition to Malaysia Airlines, China’s Xiamen Airlines will also commence scheduled flights to the Maldives starting tomorrow. Xiamen Airlines is set to operate three flights a week, further enhancing connectivity and travel options for passengers.
The return of Malaysia Airlines and the introduction of Xiamen Airlines flights are poised to boost tourism and business travel, providing more choices for travellers and supporting the Maldives’ tourism sector.
