Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race 2024 Raises MVR 680,850 to Support Child Protection Initiatives

The Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race (DMRR) 2024, the nation’s largest annual running event, has successfully raised MVR 680,850 to support NGOs focused on protecting and promoting the welfare of children. Continuing its tradition of dedicating the race to child protection, this year’s DMRR partnered with 12 local NGOs to boost fundraising and increase awareness around child welfare issues.

At registration, participants were encouraged to nominate an NGO of their choice. The five most-nominated organisations received a special grant of MVR 80,071 each, distributed from a Dhiraagu contribution of MVR 200,000. The top-nominated NGOs included the Cancer Society of Maldives, Maldives Autism Association, Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC), Maldives Thalassaemia Society, and the Child Abuse Prevention Society (CAPS).

An additional MVR 480,850 was raised through race registrations and special bib sales, which was then distributed among all 12 partner NGOs. The remaining endorsed NGOs, including Tiny Hearts of Maldives, Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives, Care Society, Moms Aid, Society for Health Education, Maldives Association of Persons with Disabilities, and the Diabetes Society of Maldives, each received MVR 40,071 to support their child protection programmes.

Listed in the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) calendar, the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race remains the only international race of its kind in the Maldives, recognised with a World Athletics-certified route. Dhiraagu has announced that next year’s race will take place on 24 October 2025.
