Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, has returned to Malé following an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman at the invitation of Oman’s Foreign Minister, His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi.
During the visit, Dr. Khaleel held discussions with several senior Omani officials, including His Highness Sayyed Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan. Oman’s Foreign Minister, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, accompanied His Highness at the meeting.
In a meeting with Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr, the two Ministers reviewed the bilateral relationship between the Maldives and Oman. They discussed potential areas of collaboration in education, trade, tourism, and investment promotion.
Dr. Khaleel also met with Oman’s Minister of Finance, His Excellency Sultan bin Salim bin Said Al Habsi, and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, as well as other officials, to explore opportunities for cooperation across various sectors.
Two agreements were signed during the visit. The Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations establishes a framework for regular dialogue between the two Foreign Ministries, while the Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Diplomatic, Special, Service, and Official Passport Holders is set to facilitate official travel.
Minister Dr. Khaleel was accompanied by Dr. Hala Hameed, Secretary, Bilateral; Ms. Fathimath Naeema, Senior Under Secretary; and Mr. Mohamed Shujau, Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit represents another step in strengthening the relationship between the Maldives and Oman through continued dialogue and collaboration.
