Maafaru International Airport, operated by Island Aviation Services Limited, ended 2024 on a strong note, with December recording 98 private jet movements. Despite a temporary closure from June to September for runway expansion, the airport demonstrated its resilience and continued to play a crucial role as a gateway for luxury travellers to the Maldives.
The completion of the runway expansion project prior to the busy holiday season enabled the airport to accommodate larger aircraft and meet the demands of high-net-worth individuals travelling to Noonu Atoll’s world-class resorts. The airport’s strategic location and enhanced facilities have further cemented its reputation among discerning travellers.
Mr. Mumthaz Ali, General Manager Airports at Island Aviation Services Limited, highlighted the airport’s progress, saying, “The advancements we made last year demonstrate our dedication to innovation and excellence. The annual performance and December figures at Maafaru International Airport provide evidence of the airport’s increasing position as a leading luxury aviation hub. We have introduced additional services like ground transportation, and apron work is currently ongoing. Our airport is set to undergo a comprehensive transformation to better meet the needs of our passengers.”
Maafaru’s ability to attract luxury travellers is a testament to its importance in supporting the Maldives’ tourism strategies and economic growth. As the Maldives remains a top destination for high-spending tourists, Maafaru International Airport continues to enhance its services to meet the evolving expectations of its clientele.
