Customs Revenue Hits MVR 350 Million in March

According to monthly trade statistics for March 2025, Maldives recorded total imports valued at MVR 4.4 billion, including MVR 867 million in fuel. Imports excluding fuel stood at MVR 3.5 billion.

Key import categories included food items (excluding pork, alcohol, and tobacco) valued at MVR 1.06 billion, machinery and electrical appliances at MVR 729 million, and chemical products at MVR 295 million. Imports also included base metals (MVR 241 million), mineral products (MVR 219 million), and vessels and aircraft parts (MVR 170 million).

Other notable import categories were plastics and rubber articles (MVR 117 million), optical and measuring instruments (MVR 92 million), textiles (MVR 91 million), and vehicles and accessories (MVR 51 million). Tobacco, alcohol, and pork imports amounted to MVR 49 million.

Imports originated mainly from the United Arab Emirates, which accounted for 30% of the total at MVR 1.34 billion. India followed at MVR 713 million, with China (MVR 514 million), Singapore (MVR 356 million), and Sri Lanka (MVR 249 million) also among the leading countries.

Total exports for the month were valued at MVR 204 million. Frozen skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) made up the largest share at MVR 115 million, followed by prepared or preserved skipjack tuna at MVR 46 million. Other export items included frozen yellowfin tuna (MVR 13 million), fishmeal (MVR 7 million), and fresh or chilled yellowfin tuna loins (MVR 4 million).

Thailand received 58% of total exports, valued at MVR 118 million. The United Kingdom accounted for 21% at MVR 42 million, followed by Vietnam (MVR 8 million), Bangladesh (MVR 7 million), and Germany (MVR 5 million).

Customs revenue collected in March totalled MVR 350 million, with MVR 40 million collected as royalty.

Vessel movements showed 127 arrivals and 152 departures during the month. A total of 23,318 declarations were processed, compared to 22,350 in March 2024.
