Bangladesh High Commission Marks Independence Day With Ceremony at Crossroads Maldives

The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives commemorated the 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh with a formal event at the Event Hall, Crossroads Maldives, bringing together diplomats, government officials, and community members.

The ceremony was held to honour the country’s independence and national identity, with Minister of Finance and Planning, Moosa Zameer, attending as Chief Guest. In his address, Zameer highlighted the strong and longstanding ties between Bangladesh and the Maldives, noting their shared history, mutual cooperation, and the vital role of the Bangladeshi community in the Maldivian economy and society.

Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh to the Maldives, Md Sohel Parvez, paid tribute to the nation’s freedom fighters and martyrs, reflecting on the sacrifices made during Bangladesh’s struggle for independence in 1971. He also spoke of the country’s progress since then and reiterated a continued commitment to strengthening bilateral relations across all areas of cooperation.

Among the distinguished guests were Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed; Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu; National Security Advisor, Ibrahim Latheef, DC (Retd), Lt. Col (Retd); Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim; and Dr Mahmood Shaugee, Chancellor of Maldives National University. The event was also attended by senior Maldivian government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, parliamentarians, representatives from international organisations, and members of the Bangladeshi expatriate community.

The celebration served to reaffirm the close relationship between Bangladesh and the Maldives, with a shared vision focused on peace, prosperity, and regional cooperation.
