Dhiraagu Empowering Progress Through Inclusive Digital Access

As we celebrate the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2025, Dhiraagu proudly reflects on its journey of transforming lives through technology. With this year’s global theme focusing on “Gender Equality in Digital Transformation,” Dhiraagu’s continued efforts to connect communities and empower individuals have never been more relevant.

In a nation defined by its geography, achieving 100% nationwide fibre broadband access is a remarkable milestone and one that not many countries, even among the most developed, have reached. This achievement ensures that every inhabited island across the Maldives has access to high-speed internet, allowing all communities to participate in the digital world equally. Complementing this, Dhiraagu was the first company in South Asia and in the Maldives to rollout the latest 5G technology in the country, opening doors to next-generation services such as smart education, telehealth, and digital entrepreneurship.

Dhiraagu’s commitment to future-proofing the nation’s connectivity is further strengthened through its investment in the SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable system connecting Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Western Europe. This project will enhance the resilience of our networks and provide greater international bandwidth and reliability, helping secure the Maldives’ place in the global digital economy. At the same time, with 100% mobile coverage across all inhabited islands, including the most remote corners of the archipelago, Dhiraagu continues to ensure that no one is left behind.

These achievements are not just about technology; they are about creating opportunities, fostering inclusion, and uplifting lives. Digital access plays a crucial role in driving socio-economic development, particularly by enabling greater participation of women and girls in the digital economy. From online learning and digital upskilling to remote work and business opportunities, the digital landscape has become a platform for empowerment and equality. Through its infrastructure, services, and partnerships, Dhiraagu is actively contributing to closing the gender digital divide and supporting a more inclusive and sustainable Maldives.

As we look to the future, Dhiraagu remains committed to leading the nation’s digital transformation journey by connecting people, enabling progress, and ensuring that everyone, everywhere, can benefit from the power of technology. On this World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, collectively as a nation, we celebrate the progress the leading digital service provider have made to build a connected future for all.
