Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef departed for Spain on Friday to attend the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), set to take place in Seville from 30 June to 3 July 2025.
The conference brings together global stakeholders to address pressing issues in financial reform, debt sustainability, and inclusive development. It marks the first time the event is being held since the 2015 Addis Ababa conference.
During the opening segment, Vice President Latheef is expected to deliver a statement at the plenary session, outlining the Maldives’ priorities in development financing. He will also take part in thematic multi-stakeholder roundtables, where he is scheduled to highlight the country’s efforts in pursuing financial reform and strengthening debt sustainability.
The Vice President is also set to speak at events hosted by the Maldives on the sidelines of the conference, reinforcing the country’s call for greater support from the international community. A delegation of senior government officials will accompany him and participate in high-level discussions throughout the four-day event.
FfD4 serves as a forum for dialogue between governments, multilateral institutions, the private sector, civil society, and the United Nations system, aiming to build consensus on strategies for financing sustainable development.
