Thilamalé Bridge Reaches Key Milestone with Piling Phase Finished

The Thilamalé Bridge project has passed a critical juncture with the completion of its piling works, marking significant progress in one of the Maldives’ most ambitious infrastructure undertakings. According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, this phase was the most technically demanding element of the project, and its conclusion brings overall completion to just over 60 percent.

A total of 263 piles have been successfully installed across 68 locations, both onshore and offshore, forming the structural foundation of the 6.7-kilometre bridge. Once completed, the bridge will link four key areas within the Greater Malé region, with interchange points and designated parking facilities provided at each connected island.

The ministry has outlined a clear timeline for the next stages of the project. The Malé-Gulhifalhu segment is scheduled for completion by the end of March 2026, with the link between Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi expected to be finalised by September of the same year. Full handover to the government is anticipated by 30 September 2026.

Maldivian authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to delivering the project on time, citing ongoing consultations with senior Indian officials as part of their coordination and oversight efforts.

The bridge is considered a key component of national development planning, aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic integration across the Greater Malé region.
