Dhiraagu has extended its support to the Blind and Visually Impaired Society of Maldives (BVISM) as part of its corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at empowering vulnerable communities. The partnership will help BVISM carry out a series of community engagement sessions across Shaviyani Atoll.
The non-governmental organisation, which advocates for the rights and well-being of blind and visually impaired individuals in the Maldives, is leading sensitisation programmes in Kanditheemu, Milandhoo, Funadhoo, and Komandoo. These sessions, supported by local councils, aim to improve awareness, promote inclusion, and encourage greater acceptance within island communities.
In addition to facilitating these events, Dhiraagu continues to provide in-kind support through its Phone Meeting service. This platform enables free calls among BVISM members using Dhiraagu’s network, offering a practical solution for organisational meetings and social interaction where in-person gatherings may not be feasible.
The service has become a key communication tool for BVISM, helping members stay connected, exchange knowledge, and conduct training and awareness sessions remotely. It plays a central role in fostering peer support and building a stronger, more cohesive community for visually impaired individuals.
Dhiraagu stated that its broader CSR initiatives remain focused on supporting children, youth, and vulnerable groups through programme-based assistance and outreach.
