The first batch of the National Apprenticeship Program and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL)’s “Hunavaru” Program has successfully concluded, with certificates awarded to 54 participants at a ceremony held at Hulhulé Island Hotel.
The event was attended by Minister of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, Ibrahim Waheed, who underscored the importance of human resource development for companies such as MACL. He noted that capacity-building initiatives play a vital role in ensuring a skilled workforce across different sectors.
MACL’s Deputy Managing Director, Mujtaba Latheef, said the “Hunavaru” Program has opened significant opportunities for Maldivians to gain training in aviation and related fields, adding that a new batch of the program would be launched next week with even more opportunities on offer.
The “Hunavaru” initiative was introduced to train individuals in areas needed by MACL. As part of this effort, 25 youth joined the program through the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development’s “Dhalan” Expo. After six months of training, 17 of these participants have now secured employment with MACL.
Alongside this, the National Apprenticeship Program, run by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts, aims to link unemployed youth with employers and education providers to create lasting employment opportunities. Through MACL’s participation in this scheme, 34 of its existing employees without formal qualifications have now received a National Qualifications Framework Level 3 certificate.
