Ooredoo Maldives has expanded its 5G network to cover 80 percent of the country, making it the largest 5G network currently in operation in the Maldives. The expansion reflects continued investment in telecommunications infrastructure as data usage increases across residential, commercial, and institutional users.
The wider coverage allows customers to access higher speed mobile connectivity with lower latency, supporting services such as video streaming, online gaming, remote work, digital learning, and other data intensive applications. The network expansion is intended to improve consistency and performance across islands where demand for mobile data has been rising.
The rollout also extends access to 5G services for businesses, including small and medium sized enterprises, alongside households. By expanding coverage beyond key population centres, the network is positioned to support digital services and connectivity needs across a broader geographic area.
According to the company, the expansion forms part of its longer term approach to developing digital infrastructure in the Maldives, with further network development expected to continue based on demand and technical requirements.
