Bank of Maldives has introduced a streamlined process allowing customers to book medical foreign currency directly through its Mobile Banking App, reducing the need for in-person visits.
Under the updated process, customers travelling overseas for medical treatment can apply for medical dollars through the app, upload the required documentation, and monitor the status of their application digitally.
Patients seeking treatment abroad under Aasandha and the National Social Protection Agency scheme will be eligible to obtain up to USD 2,000. Those who are self-financing their medical treatment overseas can access up to USD 1,000.
The bank stated that medical dollars will now be credited exclusively to customers’ USD accounts. Customers who do not already have a USD account can open one through the mobile app.
The move forms part of ongoing efforts to digitise banking services and improve access to foreign currency for essential travel purposes.
