A continued collaboration between industry and academia is set to expand training pathways in the Maldives’ hospitality sector, as Universal Foundation and Villa College move forward with the next phase of their joint programme.
The two institutions have renewed their partnership to continue the Discover Hospitality Program in 2026, formalised through a Memorandum of Agreement signed earlier this month. The initiative, first introduced in 2017, focuses on preparing young people for careers in hospitality through a combination of academic instruction and industry-based training.
Since its launch, the programme has trained more than 200 students, with seven batches completing operational training and two specialising in culinary training. The introduction of a Culinary CIII Certificate in 2024 broadened the programme’s scope, offering a structured pathway for those pursuing culinary careers.
The renewed agreement will see the launch of the eighth batch in operations and the third batch in culinary training, both scheduled to begin on 1 June 2026. Participants will undertake theoretical studies at Villa College, followed by a three-month internship at properties managed by Versa Hospitality.
The programme is fully funded by Universal Foundation, while participants receive an allowance during their internship placements. The structure is designed to combine classroom learning with practical exposure, supported by ongoing assessment throughout the training period.
Applications for the upcoming intake are currently open, with a deadline set for 10 May 2026.
