The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has rolled out a dedicated phone application for its taxi service, “Malé Taxi”, aimed at modernising and improving taxi services in the Malé area. The app is now available for download on the Apple Store.

The app builds on the existing web-based booking system and enables users to book taxis, schedule journeys in advance, and manage trips digitally.

According to MTCC, users can schedule rides at least three hours before travel. The platform also offers multiple payment options, including wallet top-ups, bank card payments via a payment gateway, and scan-and-pay services. Trip history and scheduled bookings are also available within the app.

A safety function has been introduced to support passengers in emergencies, alongside in-app options to call or message drivers. Users can also report lost items directly through the platform.

MTCC said an Android version will be released on Google Play soon. Until then, passengers can continue to book rides via the MTL web application and the hotline number 1655.

Despite the mobile launch, existing booking channels remain in place to ensure uninterrupted access to the service.

Recent operational data shows the average waiting time for a taxi is around eight minutes, while the average trip duration stands at 12.2 minutes. Authorities have also reported rising demand, with thousands of trips completed shortly after the service expansion.

The Malé Taxi service was introduced as part of broader efforts to address transport challenges in the capital and improve accessibility through digital solutions.
