Operational under the name “Weekend Market,” the venue is scheduled to run every weekend. It was established to provide local farmers and artisans with a dedicated commercial platform to promote and sell fresh agricultural produce alongside traditional, home-grown Addu products.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, the primary objective of the market exhibition is to emphasize and encourage food security at both the local island and national levels. A wide variety of Addu’s local products are set to be showcased through the venue, expanding opportunities for vendors to trade fruits, vegetables, nursery plants, and hand-crafted goods.

The Addu City Council noted that the project forms part of ongoing efforts to support the island’s farming community, cater to their operational needs, and stimulate local commerce.
