Edelweiss Expands Maldives Flights with Additional Summer Services

Seasonal demand from European travellers is prompting an increase in air connectivity between Switzerland and the Maldives, with Edelweiss Air adding extra flights during the peak summer travel period.

The airline has scheduled two additional weekly services between 4 July and 13 September 2026, operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays alongside its existing flights. The expansion will result in a total of 21 additional flights over the summer season, increasing overall seat capacity on the route.

The move reflects continued demand from the Swiss and broader European market, particularly during the mid-year travel window when outbound leisure travel typically rises. Additional frequencies are expected to provide more flexibility for travellers while supporting steady visitor inflows to the Maldives during a period that is generally considered off-peak compared to the winter high season.

Edelweiss Air remains a long-standing operator in the Maldivian market. The airline first launched services to the Maldives in November 2000 and has maintained regular operations for over two decades. In 2025, it marked 25 years of service to the destination, underscoring its sustained role in connecting Switzerland with the Maldives’ tourism sector.

The increase in flights also aligns with broader efforts by airlines to adjust capacity in response to shifting travel patterns, as destinations seek to maintain momentum beyond traditional peak seasons.
