Island Aviation Services Ltd (IASL) signed an agreement with the Ministry of Tourism to develop an airport in R. Fainu along with a city hotel project.
The agreement was signed between both parties on the 30th of May; Minister of Tourism Mr. Moosa Zameer signed on behalf of the government whereas Managing Director of IASL Mr. Abdul Haris signed on behalf of the company.
During the signing ceremony, Mr. Haris stated that along with the city hotel, a medical center, recovery facilities for surgical patients, an aircraft hanger as well as training quarters are included as part of the project. The airport will include a two story building which will facilitate a lounge, cafe and restaurant.
The first phase of the project will focus on the runway and terminal. Haris explained that the EIA report will be completed within a month from the signing. IASL intends on completing the first phase and opening the airport within an year. More than MVR 123 million is being invested in the project.
