Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has officially launched the two-day Fishermen’s Forum in the reclaimed suburb Hulhumale’ as part of its preparatory activities leading up to the Fisherman’s Day celebrations on December 10th.
According to the Ministry, Fishermen’s day intends to recognize fishermen, their families and the industry as a whole for their contributions to the sector.
As part of its preparatory activities, the Ministry conducted a pole and line fishing expedition for youth on Friday as well as the ‘Fisheries Expo”. The Ministry along with the government has revealed plans to host a fish gutting and fillet competition on Monday.
The fisheries sector remains as a major source of employment for Maldivians, despite the contributions of the fisheries industry to the GDP of Maldives has declined over the years.
