Former North Hithadhoo MP Mohamed Sinan has been appointed as the Managing Director of Agro National Corporation (AgroNat), returning to executive leadership in a state-owned enterprise shortly after losing his seat in the People’s Majlis due to a Supreme Court ruling over unpaid debt obligations.

The appointment was formalised by the Board of Directors of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) as part of an executive management restructuring following AgroNat’s integration into MIFCO as a subsidiary. Concurrently, MIFCO Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Anas was named Chairperson of AgroNat.

Subsequent to losing his seat, Sinan won the People’s National Congress (PNC) primary to contest the constituency’s by-election; however, he later relinquished that opportunity.

Founded in April 2020, state-owned AgroNat develops the agricultural sector by managing supply chains, supporting contract farmers, and cutting reliance on imported produce across island communities.

MIFCO expressed confidence that the new executive management team will strengthen AgroNat’s operational capacity and accelerate the development of an integrated national food distribution system.
