Gov’t Offers MVR 941.09 Million in Treasury Bills

The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises has invited subscriptions for MVR 941.09 million in Treasury bills, with the sale scheduled for 4 October and settlement due on 5 October.

The offering, announced on 29 September under series TB-2026-20, comprises four securities with maturities ranging from 28 to 364 days. The listed interest rates range from 3.50 per cent to 4.60 per cent, increasing with the length of the borrowing period.

The largest allocation is MVR 285 million in 28-day bills, carrying an interest rate of 3.50 per cent and maturing on 2 November 2026. A further MVR 180.09 million is offered in 98-day bills at 3.87 per cent, with maturity on 11 January 2027.

The ministry is also offering MVR 200.5 million in 182-day bills at 4.23 per cent, maturing on 5 April 2027, and MVR 275.5 million in 364-day bills at 4.60 per cent, due on 4 October 2027.

Treasury bills are short-term government debt securities. Investors provide funds to the government for a specified period, with repayment due when the securities mature.

The notice requires subscriptions to be submitted using the ministry’s Subscription Form between 8.30am and 11am on the sale date. Applications must comply with the Treasury Bill Prospectus and other rules published by the ministry.

Successful subscribers must pay in full on the settlement date. The ministry said failure to settle on time could result in suspension from subsequent government securities operations.
