Ibrahim Shiuree has resigned as Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation, bringing another leadership change to the state-owned company responsible for promoting the Maldives as a tourism destination.
Shiuree stepped down on Monday after meeting with employees earlier in the day. The reason for his resignation remains unclear.
He was appointed Managing Director on 13 June 2024, when the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation, formerly known as MMPRC, was renamed Visit Maldives.
During his tenure, the corporation pursued targeted digital campaigns, expanded partnerships with international travel operators and promoted efforts to diversify the Maldives’ tourism offerings.
Shiuree was the second person appointed to lead the corporation under the current administration. Fatimath Thaufeeg, commonly known as Kudee, was the government’s first appointee to the position.
A recipient of both the National Award and the Youth Award, Shiuree holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in Public Relations and Communication from Limkokwing University in Malaysia.
Before joining Visit Maldives, he served on the boards of the Maldives Hajj Corporation and the Maldives Association of Construction Industry.
