President Muizzu has vowed to resolve operational hurdles facing online businesses and address accessibility concerns raised by citizens with disabilities following the latest instalment of the public consultation initiative, ‘Rayyithunge Adu’ (Voice of the People).
During the session, members of the public raised pressing operational difficulties regarding cross-border e-commerce platforms, specifically highlighting issues when importing stock via the popular online retailer ‘Temu.’ Citizens noted that numerous Maldivian entrepreneurs rely heavily on the platform to source commercial goods for local commerce.
In response to the business community’s concerns, President Muizzu highlighted that the government is working continuously to establish practical solutions and streamline commercial importing processes.
The public forum also brought key accessibility infrastructure challenges to light. One of the participants urged the administration to implement targeted public service enhancements, including standardising mosque features to assist worshippers in identifying the Qiblah direction independently.
The individual further highlighted navigational challenges on the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) bus network, requesting an automated audio notification system to announce approaching stops onboard buses for visually impaired passengers. Additionally, the participant praised the inclusive infrastructure design of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, urging the government to replicate its accessible layout across future road redevelopment projects nationwide.
President Muizzu confirmed that the administration will work alongside relevant ministries and state agencies to rectify the specific transport and urban design shortcomings.
