Addu City witnessed a vibrant occasion as the luxury cruise ship MS Hebridean Sky, operated by Noble Caledonia, arrived in its waters. Docking at Maradhoo harbour on Thursday morning, the vessel was warmly welcomed by Addu City’s Mayor and council members, marking a significant moment for the city’s tourism sector.
Passengers aboard the 118-passenger, all-suite ship were greeted with a cultural showcase organised by the Maradhoo Avashu Office. Traditional dance performances and displays of local craftsmanship provided visitors with an introduction to Addu’s rich heritage. The warm reception underscored the city’s eagerness to embrace international travellers, offering them an authentic experience beyond the Maldives’ more frequently visited atolls.
Approximately 100 tourists, primarily from the United Kingdom, disembarked for a day of exploration. Organised by Manta Expeditions, a local group focused on marine conservation and eco-tourism, the itinerary included a visit to the Addu Nature Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve known for its lush landscapes and biodiversity. Visitors also explored the Koshidhorage Addu Heritage House, where historical and cultural artefacts provided insight into Addu’s storied past.
MS Hebridean Sky is recognised for its elegance and intimate cruising experience, offering spacious accommodations and upscale amenities. Its arrival in Addu marks another milestone in the city’s growing appeal as a destination for luxury travellers seeking cultural and ecological experiences.
As more cruise ships make their way to Addu, the city’s tourism sector is poised for further growth. With ongoing efforts to enhance its tourism offerings, Addu continues to position itself as a compelling destination within the Maldives, drawing attention to its natural beauty, rich history, and welcoming community.
