The Maldives has been recognised as the World’s Leading Destination for the fifth consecutive year and the World’s Leading Green Destination for the first time at the World Travel Awards 2024. A celebratory event was held on 27 November at the Waterfront, Velana International Airport, to mark these significant achievements.
The event, hosted by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), was attended by prominent figures including the Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal, CEO and Managing Director of MMPRC, Ibrahim Shiuree, and CEO and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed.
Ibrahim Shiuree expressed his gratitude for the accolades, stating they represent the relentless efforts of stakeholders within the tourism industry to position the Maldives as a premier global destination. He highlighted that these achievements reflect the nation’s dedication to offering outstanding travel experiences while championing sustainable tourism practices.
Adding to the occasion, MMPRC unveiled a new ‘Maldives signage’ at Velana International Airport, further solidifying the country’s brand visibility on the global stage.
The recognition of the Maldives as a leader in both destination appeal and environmental responsibility is expected to contribute significantly to the ongoing success of the nation’s tourism sector. MMPRC remains committed to promoting the Maldives as a top-tier destination, with sustainability at the core of its strategy.
