Maldives is among the countries that does not discriminate in providing healthcare services for those affected by COVID-19, United Nation’s High Commissioner Michelle Bachelet has said.
She made the comment during a video conference meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement’s Geneva Chapter on June 10.
Dr. Hala Hameed, the representative from Maldives to UN, emphasized Maldives’ commitment to the efforts of the High Commissioner’s office to uphold human rights.
Previously, Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, also assured that the government would not discriminate between locals and foreigners in provision of providing healthcare for COVID-19.
Maldives has reported more than 2,000 cases of COVID-19 so far, and the majority of cases are foreigners. So far more than 1,000 Bangladeshis has been diagnosed as positive for COVID-19 in Maldives, followed by 191 Indians.
