Maldives Formalises Ambassadorial Appointments to UAE and Palestine
- Thoriq Ibrahim presented his Letter of Credence to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at Qasr Al Watan on Thursday, becoming the seventh Maldivian ambassador to the UAE.
- Dr Ibrahim Zuhuree presented his credentials as non-resident ambassador to Palestine during a virtual ceremony with Palestinian Foreign Minister Dr Varsen Aghabekian on Wednesday.
- Zuhuree reaffirmed the Maldives' support for an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Maldives has formalised new ambassadorial appointments to the United Arab Emirates and the State of Palestine, with Thoriq Ibrahim and Dr Ibrahim Zuhuree presenting their diplomatic credentials.
Thoriq presented his Letter of Credence to UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at a ceremony held at Qasr Al Watan on Thursday.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Thoriq and wished him success as he began his tenure. Thoriq conveyed greetings from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, the Maldivian Government and the people of the Maldives.
He also expressed his commitment to expanding the longstanding friendship and bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Maldives and the UAE established diplomatic relations on 15 March 1978. Thoriq is the seventh Maldivian ambassador accredited to the UAE.
Separately, Dr Ibrahim Zuhuree presented his Letters of Credence as the Maldives’ non-resident ambassador to Palestine to Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr Varsen Aghabekian during a virtual ceremony on Wednesday.
Zuhuree conveyed greetings from President Muizzu and the Maldivian people to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the people of Palestine. He also reiterated the Maldives’ support for an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
